simple questions for new install!

I am stuck up with this

I wanted to dual boot windows xp and Ubuntu (GNOME)

But ubuntu detected teh windows partition as windows xp/200/NT and couldn't go ahead of that....

it gave me some error pertaining to chainloader......

Moreover, is there any efficient download manager compatible with firefox, in Ubuntu?

I want to download ISOs but can't do this, cuz, i don't get resume support with the firefoxs' inbuilt download manager.

Note that i use GNOME.

How do i do that now?

Plz help!

The basic function of my computer here is to download and download and if Ubuntu provides great support for this need of mine.......I am ready to kick off Windows.

so install linux after windows. or is the disk partitioned already with linux in front and you are reinstalling? i don't quite get what you're asking.

check the firefox extensions, there are a bunch of download tools there: https://addons.update.mozilla.org/ex...wnload%20Tools

i don't use one, so i can't be more specific about which might be a good one, sorry (but i might test a few now that you've mentioned it ).

Sorry that u did not get what i was asking.

This may make it more clear.

I have already installed Ubuntu.
previously, i had windows xp (on a different partition on the same HDD)

Now there is a problem just in my Grub.
Nothing else, everything is workin fine ------->except that i can't boot into my windows.

Tell me how to modify grub in order to boot to windows as well.

And yes........thanks for the link to mozilla.

add this to your /boot/grub/menu.lst file

# Other bootable partition config begins
title XP
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1
# Other bootable partition config ends
