Xubuntu is to my knowledge Ubuntu with XFCE as GUI.
If you do have a internet connection and you like to use a other GUI KDE GNOME LXDE well install it at the inlog screen you can choice the GUI you like to use

To add the Ubuntu Gnome desktop to your existing Xubuntu install, simply run in terminal:
Code:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
These pages describe adding KDE or XFCE to an existing Ubuntu install. It is the same process for adding Gnome to XFCE though:
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/kde
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/xfce
If you want to remove XFCE and only use Gnome, then run the commands for removing all the XFCE stuff and adding the Gnome desktop listed on this page:
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/puregnome
NOTE: That last link applies only to K/X/Ubuntu 8.10. If you are using Xubuntu 8.04 see this:
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/puregnomehardy
