Setting up Shared Folders in Virtual Box?

Hello Everyone:

I finally downloaded Virtual Box for Ubuntu and I'm running Windows XP in it. I've read in the setting menu that I can have a shared folder from my Ubuntu desktop in my Windows XP Virtual computer. I made sure to mark a folder called "Shared" in my Ubuntu home directory as shared for Samba. Then I went into the Virtual Box Settings and added it in the Shared folder box. I started up the Windows XP desktop and tried to run the "net use x: \\vboxsvr\shared" command but I keep getting "The network cannot be found." Can someone please explain what I'm doing wrong?

Hi,

Though my situation was the other way around, I may be able to help nonetheless.

First, did you install the guest additions for XP?

After installing the guest additions on your XP gues, you should be able to run that 'net use' command and connect to the share.

I'm running version 1.5.0. This is at work so the host is Windows and the guest is Linux, but the guest additions have to installed on the guest VM before using shared folders.
