Setting up a laptop

I have a inspiron 1100 I want to hook up to wirless internet with. I use a linksys WPC54G that is not supported in ubuntu with my current setup. Pls tell me how to fix this.

should take a look at NDISwrapper which takes drivers for wireless cards and makes them work for linux and can be found at sourceforge. Also take a look in the HCL(direct link to WPC54G) since other users have their solutions for getting it to work. The first two got it working with NDISwrapper so it should work fairly well if you just follow their directions

If you can avoid ndiswrapper, you should. It's for cards whose developers have been uncooperative with Linux, and I don't hink that's the case with this one.

Here's a thread about that card. The 2nd post is from a guy who swears by it, and may include some useful links.

A few things first of all does ndiswrapper require the XP drivers because I don't have them. Second of all rickh the guy talks about a router not an adapter and its model name is slightly diffrent. Thanks for helping so far.

NDISwrapper will require drivers but if you dont have them you can just google for them or search the linksys website. They should have the drivers available for download.
