Serious AMD64 UBUNTU and KUBUNTU problem

I downloaded Ubuntu 5.04, after finding it, and finding out it's excellent, fast, reliable (not so far), and my cousin has it and loves it, I used to run gentoo 64 i liked it, but it's too bare, not complicated for me, but I have to compile everything, and I prefer dpkg and apt, with .deb precompiled files.

But anyway, what my problem is, I can do the whole first part of the install, formatting as ext3, etc, it is not an overclocked amd64 chip, nor it is not overheating.

I get to the second part, and everything is great, until it gets past setting up basically everything, then it gets to a part, where it downloads the file through apt, automatically, called "openoffice.org-thesaurus" On KUBUNTU, and UBUNTU, it reboots the computer, an instant power-kill reboot, at 46%, I haven't gotten less or more, it stops at 46%, it seems pretty odd, that it happens in both ubuntu and kubuntu, even though they're basically the same thing, my hard drive has no bad blocks, so that made me assume it is an error in the amd64 version of this operating system.

What should I do, I WANT THIS O/S, I just don't like all these problems, it doesnt make me think highly of it, If I download the 32 bit version, will it still run on my amd64 chip, I don't like to run 32, because the chip has more potential than that.

Well, my best sulution, so far, is to download regular debian (Sarge) and install what I need from there.

I tried like 7 times, even I tried 32 bit version, It just won't work

oh well, maybe the next version of ubuntu I'll give a go, maybe it'll work better, because I apparently am the only one to experience this problem, so goodbye ubuntu attempts, I'm going to the next closest thing.
