SendMail, PostFix or Exim

Hi,

I want to install on my local machine a MTA because I want a (send) mail function in PHP. I have read on some forums that there are problems with the installation of a MTA.

Does someone know which MTA is the most easiest to install and will work immediately after the installation?

Regards,

Johannes

Postfix is pretty straghtforward. Have a look at one of the howtos on www.posfix.org.

I think, off the top of my head, that you'll only need to set two or three parameters in the config in the worst case for a basic setup. May even work out of the box.

If you are putting it on a Fedora box, install system-switch-mail (I think that's what it's called). This will set the necessary ssytem files to enable sendmail compatible functions to work (such as sendmail command)

Thank you for your answer. I have installed ssmtp. It is a very small and easy to configure MTA. Only two settings are required. And it works perfectly with PHP. You can only sent mail with this package but that is the only functionality I wanted.
