Screen resolution icon when connected to projector

Dear LQ,

I am on ubuntu 8.04. When I connect to a projector, I can sync my machine with the projector by going to System->Preferences->Screen_Resolution-> detecting displays and clicking the box "MIrror Screens". This works fine but what I get in the upper right corner is an icon of the screens both on my computer and on the projector output. I would like to get rid of this icon! Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Pete

I would, if possible with your hardware upgrade or reinstall to a more recent version. I have used both 8.10 and 9.04 and had auto-magic detection, syncing and display without any extra steps or pesky little windows in the way: and I've done that with both a Dell Inspiron 1420 and an Asus EEEpc 701. Good resolution with both of them too.

TOKhanks for this suggestion although this is not a viable option right now. Any other recommendations? Anyone?
