Screen Refresh Rate too low
I installed Ubuntu recently on my AMD 64 3000+ computer. I have a Radeon X600 series graphics card. When I go into the monitor settings on gnome or KDE it will only let me go up to 60 Hz, whereas on WindowsXP it will go up to 200. I changed the xorg.conf file and changed the monitor settings so the refresh rate goes up to 150. After I did that I went into gnome to see if it changed anything. There was an option for 86Hz, and when I did that the quality of the picture was degraded, and it was smaller.
There is a possibility that it is related to another line I changed in the xorg.conf. I had to change one of the graphics cards settings, otherwise Ubuntu wouldn't start at all. Code:
Option "NoAccel" "true" So if anyone can figure out how to get a higher refresh rate, or get my graphics card working with hardware acceleration, it would be great. from The Masonmop |
ati has poor linux support but is getting better your choices are
1) wait for better ATI linux drivers 2) get a better supported video card |
try in a konsole/terminal
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg press enter password press enter follow the on screen instructions ... |
