Code:
~/custom$ ./scanModem
ls: /dev/modem: No such file or directory
ls: /dev/ttySL0: No such file or directory
I am running Ubuntu Dapper on Acer Aspire 3003LC (it's in the HCL).
The modem is as follows:
Code:
~/custom$ sudo lspci -v | grep -A 6 Modem
0000:00:02.6 Modem: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] AC'97 Modem Controller (rev a0) (prog-if 00 [Generic])
Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI]: Unknown device 0083
Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 177
I/O ports at 1000 [size=256]
I/O ports at 1c00 [size=128]
Capabilities: [48] Power Management version 2
The scanModem script is: scanModemOct07 from
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il (renamed to just plain "scanModem" after opening the script in a text editor and reading it).
Getting the modem going is not the issue here.
I have previously just "apt-get install sl-modem-driver" to get this modem going. This no longer works.
The
ubuntu guide has an entry for installing the smartlink driver, but is restricted to a single kver - vis:
For me:
Code:
:~/custom$ uname -r
2.6.15-27-686
The linmodem project is saying that the driver is no longer supported - and has suggestions, including that there are additional noted included in the scanModem script. All this amounts to me having to compile the driver... this is not an issue, old hand wot I am. However, I had hoped the scanModem script would provide additional information. It has been very helpful in the past (successfully run back in my Hoary/Fedora days).
Anybody know what the story is with Ubuntu and scanModem (and the smartlink driver too), please let me know.
Thanks.
