Rpm with Ubuntu

I'm trying to install a cedega rpm on Ubuntu, and it constantly tells me to install it with alien instead. When I input this:

sudo rpm -i cedega-6.1-1.i386.rpm

I get this output:

rpm: To install rpm packages on Debian systems, use alien. See README.Debian.
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - No such file or directory (2)
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm

Even if I force it with

sudo rpm -if cedega-6.1-1.i386.rpm

alrite now what you should do is to convert the rpm to deb.

sudo alien --to-deb nameofapackage.rpm.

then you will have the deb package available for installation.

Why not use the .deb packages instead?

But if you want to use rpm anyway here goes:

alien is needed to convert the rpm to a .deb package.

The following is the syntax:

alien --to-deb cedega-6.1-1.i386.rpm

After it converts the rpm to a .deb package do the following:

dpkg --install cedega-6.1-1.i386.deb

If you encounter any problems I suggest you use the .deb packages transgaming already have on their site.

One more thing Cedega is only up to 4.4, which means the package you should have is:

cedega_4.4-1_i386.deb

or

cedega_4.4-1_i386.rpm

Just to point out in case you didn't already know, ubuntu is debian based and uses deb files. It is not rpm-based like fedora and red hat.
