Resolution limited on Intel x64 on T61 CPU

Hello,

I installed 7.04 Fiesty Fawn a while ago and in order to have a display, I needed to change the Serial ATA setting from AHCI to Compatibility. I now have only two screen resolutions available to me 640x800 or 800x640 (I am using this one). Can someone tell me how I can get better resolution. Below is the output from the command lspci;

You have an nvidia card (from the output that you gave). The vesa driver should work, the nv driver should also work. Did you install the nvidia driver ?

Check the default depth (first bold line) and next modify the modes line for that depth to have the required resolutions.

You need root privileges for editing the file.

Thanks Sturkenboom,

I can install an nvidia driver from their wiki site and I get an improved resolution! However, when I reboot it gives me a blaCK screen

. I can restore the original xconf.org file and it works fine. Any clue as to how I can remedy this? Attached are the nvidia xconf.org file <> followed by the default xconf.org. {}

The file /var/log/Xorg.0.log might give an indication what is wrong. Check for lines starting with EE.

Further I suggest that you add HorizSync and VertRefresh lines to your Monitor section (as indicated in the first code block in post #2; please note that they must reflect the capabilities of your monitor (see the manual).
