Remove ubuntu 5

I installed Ubuntu 5 on my PC a few days ago but have not been able to successfully operate it. I now wish to completely remove it from my hard drive?

How do I do this? Since

A windows start up disk does not boot. That is when it comes time for the PC to boot from cd it doesn't and the hard drive boots straight into Linux

A different linux boot cd just installs it's operating system on top of Ubuntu.

Ubuntu boot cd allows me to delete parttions but not to re format the hard drive.

In case you haven't guessed I am a newbie novice and would need line by line code as to how to go about this.

Use a Linux live disc. You can run a tool called fdisk that can be used to remove Linux partitions. I suggest you use a live cd called gparted or mepis because they have gui frontends to common Linux partitioning tools, that can make things a bit easier than working in the command line.

I used gparted but it does not give a drive that WIN will see.
