Pros & Cons for FireFox vs Cromium ?

currently I'm running FireFox on Ubuntu 14.04 no big problems. Just wondering and looking for opinions/reasons.

I have enough Google in my life. I accept that, to use my Android phone, I have to accept their--er--benevolent overlordship, but I'll be darned if I'm inviting them in when I don't have to.

Just my two cents.

Chromium is much better on low resource machines because it's fully multithreaded, whereas Firefox isn't (I can attest to that on this laptop that has only a N2840, Firefox is SIGNIFICANTLY slower than Chrome). Chromium if you install pepperflash will be much better compatibility with flash, and much better performance. Firefox in my experience is much better with some pages, however no idea for the reason (mostly forums). If you need to use java plugins, chromium is COMPLETELY incompatible with Java.

Try them and see which you prefer. Personally I prefer Firefox even though I agree with the positive comments about Chromium above but that's because there are certain things (like cookie whitelisting) which mean I prefer Firefox to other browsers. It depends on your browsing habits and what matter to you. I spend most of my time on the internet on pages like this one with NoScript allowing only the required domains to execute scripts and AdBlock blocking pretty much all adverts. I do, however, use Google Chrome for Netflix and Chromium in private mode when I want to use things like captive portal wireless where I want scripts to run without spending ages to turn off NoScript.

Forgot about Amazon Prime largely because it doesn't work on my desktop system but does on my laptop (running Chrome). (Still have no idea why as they run the same version of Chrome on Sid with the same kernel and DE.)
I, too, use Firefox Nightly because Debian ships with Iceweasel and, in the past, I had some issue with plugin compatibility so I "spit out my dummy" and ditched it for Firefox and, since I was installing a binary into /opt anyhow, decided to go with Nightly.

Have you ever compared the performance of nightly vs. normal firefox? Because nightly has had true multithreading since July or so, and I'd be interested if the performance has improved significantly or not (I expect it to do so).

I actually use chrome/chromium more than I used to. I got tired of Noscript blocking every single little thing, and found myself just turning it off. I wish I could find a script blocker for Firefox much like scriptblock for chromium, where if you allow ebay.com, it allows EVERYTHING that ends in ebay.com so you don't have to individually allow images.ebay.com, whatever.ebay.com, etc.

I'm afraid I don't run normal Firefox and, as it happens, I have had to turn off multithreading due to this site freezing with it switched on. Incidentally though I've never really noticed any browser being "faster" than another even on my old EEE PC before it died.
With site like eBay then, surely, you either trust the other domains or you don't? Much like this site requiring some additional domains. There is also the "allow all in this page" option in NoScript. I do understand what you mean though and it is why I sometimes choose to use Chromium -- I very much blame the lazy web developers though using so much cross site scripting.
I think from the above I would suggest that using both Chromium and Firefox and, indeed, Google Chrome is the best way -- that or having specific profiles with a browser for different tasks. I definitely don't want to use anything but Firefox myself for day-to-day browsing but absolutely know why people don't use it.

Edit: Amazon Prime seems to be working on my desktop at the moment, perhaps I was using a kernel I compiled myself on it when I tried last time, will do some testing and check.

Additional Edit: I compiled my own kernel on the desktop and can still watch Amazon Prime. So, no idea what caused issues in the past.

Nightly like sid (for e.g.) gets first crack at bugs and vulnerability... don't forget. I can say it's as fast as chrome...

Maybe or chrome updates? My prime stops working here and there too (now it's just fine) but when it doesn't I use that "fix" I mentioned in a different thread (can't find now ,) installing chrome's version over my package maintainers works with errors++?.

I should point out this is using Chrome from Google's repository and updating very time I use the computer (so, almost daily).
I am an idiot! I just checked my Chrome's for version number and it had escaped me that my desktop is running 49.0.2593.0 and my laptop 41.0.2272.118. So, yes, it's the Chrome version with the beta (on my desktop) sometimes having issues.
Thanks for making me check.
