Proc runs at half speed

Kubuntu 6.10 edgy

Gateway 450ROG Laptop w/ Pentium M 1.3GHZ

My problem is that my processor is only running at 600MHZ, even though Kubuntu does indeed recognize it as a 1300MHZ CPU, The BIOS (latest version) also sees it as 1300MHZ. I've tried to find utilities to ratchet it up to it's full speed, but have thus far been unsuccessful, anyone know any tricks to get the full 1.3GHZ from my proc? thanks.

**UPDATE**
Turns out there's something wrong with the power management thing in my install of Kubuntu, it sees the battery as discharging once it charges fully, and it knocks it down to 600MHZ, if i take the battery out, it runs at 1300MHZ... weird. anyone have any insight into this?

if you want to always keep 1300mhz just disable cpu scaling in your bios.... it's speed step scaling.. or something like that

CPU frequency scaling might be working even on non-laptops and despite your battery's charge or installation; it is common that when CPU freq scaling is in use, the processor is set to lower MHz value when it's not heavily used, to consume less power, and scaled upwards again when needed. As an example a 1,2GHz CPU on a desktop I installed Kubuntu on showed up as only a few hundred MHz frequency when "nothing special was going on", and once I started "updatedb" which takes some resources the frequency jumped to the full 1,2MHz again. So nothing to worry about.

it's because I have an 2,4 ghz Core2duo E6600 and it drops to 1,6ghz normaly with cpu scaling..

sadly the BIOS supports no adjustments to CPU scaling, but i did do some tests (using the battery display as a reference) and the freq did indeed jump up to 1300MHZ when i opened something power-hungry. The speed problem i've been having is probably due to my pitiful 256MB RAM, which remains tapped out regardless of what i do, causing virtual memory to be used for everything beyond basic OS functioning (but my 1GB RAM should be here tomorrow , so that should go away). thanks a lot for the insight, guys
