/proc/cpuinfo not fully utilizing on Hardy Heron

Hello,
I have an AMD 1.8GHz processor system. That is a dual boot of linux and windows.
I upgraded my system to Hardy Heron. When I type the command:
cat /proc/cpuinfo
My machine only shows as running at 800 MHz

How do I get this to sense my full 1800 MHz.

Any help is appreciated??

You might have a power saving feature turned on, so the processor clock is automatically slowed when the system is idle.

That would be a good thing, so you probably wouldn't want to change it.

You might want to verify that is the issue, by running some compute intensive process and redoing that cat /proc/cpuinfo while the compute intensive process is still running.

thanks

Thank you, that makes total sense.

But in fact do you happen to know a way by command line to use it to the fullest potential.

I don't yet know whether the issue is a power saving package. If so, I don't know which one. So I couldn't answer the above question even if I knew what you meant. I also don't know that.

You want a command line way to disable the power saving program (leaving the CPU at top speed whether the system is idle or not)?

Or maybe you want a command line way to temporarily switch (as fast as the CPU clock can be switched, which might not be very fast) to top speed, rather than wait for the power saving program to notice that the CPU isn't idle anymore?

Or what?

Odds are, I won't know your answer no matter how much more info you provide, but I hope I'm telling you what sort of info you would need to provide to get someone who does know the answer to be able to give it to you.

Question

Hello,

Yes indeed I was trying to find out a command line way to shut off the cpu throttling that was in Fiesty Fawn. I think it would be similiar in Hardy Heron.

What im exactly looking for is to fuind a way to shut off the cpu throttling control and let the cpu run wild whether its idle of not. I realize it may not be the best thing. So I was thinking to disable it on startup.

Then as a little spin off once I figure that out. I am aiming to learn how to accuratly tell what linux is detecting my cpu to run @ in MHz. Therefore I can tell if there is a bug in the OS to ensure its not overclocking my cpu.
