problem with k3b

recently k3b has been acting kind of wierd. i don't remember installing any program that could have done anything to it, it kind of just "happened" all of a sudden.

whenever i copy a cd or dvd (i haven't tried burning something from my hd yet), i get a small panel on every workspace (i have 4, it's on every single one) that shows how much of the image its copied. in addition to that, my mouse "skips" across the screen, instead of how smooth it normally is. my cpu temps climbs to 54-55c, while in windows when i copy something it stays around 42-43c (my idle temp is about 40c). copying something in linux is almost twice as slow as copying something in windows.

what's causing this? it used to be much easier to do it in linux, but now i'm doing most of my copying/cd burning in windows because of this, even though windows is so much less stable. i'd really appreciate someone helping me.

thanks
