In Windows, I often save web pages by printing them to a free PDF print driver. If I look at my Kubuntu Breezy 5.10 printers, it lists a PDF printer, however, when I select a printer in Firefox, only my inkjet printer is shown.
Unfortunately, I am aware of that, but not what I was after. But, as I mentioned, in Windows, there is a virtual PDF printer (PDF printer driver) that lets me print direct to a PDF file. I can do that from any app. That's what I was looking for.
pl...that's interesting...it seems to work, but I have no idea where it saved the file to, if in fact, it did generaqte a pdf. Any idea how I access anything that lets me set any parameters?
I just inserted the command in the parameters and when I printed, it popped up a dialog box that let me select "Print to PDF". The output filename was in the middle of the page...
pl...unfortunately, it didn't do that for me. When I invoked print, it immediately went through some stuff with dialogs popping, but went too fast to read, and gave no options for anything.
This is a fairly new setup, so there are only a handful of files in my /home folder, and no PDFs.
pl...yes, I left off the quotes and entered it exactly as you suggested. What I was encertain about was that the only printer that is currently shown in the Firefox print dialog box is my HP Deskjet, so when I invoke "print", and then "properties" it is in the context of the HP. It didn't make sense to me to change that script for the HP to call for PDF print. Nevertheless, lots of things in Linux don't make sense to me, so I did as you instructed, and as I said, it seemed to work, but I got no dialog box asking for any filename or path input, and couldn't find a resulting PDF.
Incidentally, in browsing around for someplace to "install" a PDF virtual printer, I did see that listed as a printer, but I sure don't recall where I saw it. It just doesn't come up as an option in Firefox.
I have also wondered about this. Considering that most FREE pdf printers in wondows are opensource (right??), why is it we do not have one in Linux, by default. The one I admire the most is pdffcatory (commercial, but 'free' to use with logo/label) that allows pages ot be collated into one pdf document. I wished we had one in Linux.
my 2c.
I just discovered that the method of printing .pdf from firefox that I was using was still creating .ps and I assumed it was .pdf without checking. More for me to learn.
