Pressing "v" turns up File Browser?
Hi,
I am having a small - yet extremely random - problem with Ubuntu 5.04 Hoary. Just a few minutes ago, I was typing some text in, and when I pressed the letter "v" on the keyboard, the letter wasn't typed! Instead, a window with Ubuntu's file browser popped up showing my home directory! This happens in any application, and I would like to fix this bug because it is VERY annoying. I have checked Keyboard Shortcuts, but there's nothing there about "v"...Can someone please help me? It is very hard to send emails and stuff when each time you want to add a "v" in a word you have to copy-and-paste it! J_K9 |
the closest iv had to this problem was when i would press a key and it wouldnt print the proper one (ie, say pressing '/' would print ':' or something). it turns out it was a setting with my keyboard (i forget what the option was, but).. it was set on Canadian, because i am, and thats what i chose during install, but i had to change it to something like american and it worked..
i know this is a little different and doesnt sound like it could be the solution, but.. |
click on system --> preferences --> Keyboard --> Layouts and verify that your layout is listed.
also this may be unlikely, but maybe restarting gnome would fix the issue. Just ctrl+alt+backspace |
Sorry, I forgot to mention how I fixed this - I had set the "grave" key to open up a Home folder when pressed, but for some reason Ubuntu "thought" that my -v- key was my -`- key. Therefore, all I needed to do was disable the shortcut and, presto!
