playing .avi files in ubuntu?


hello,

im trying to play .avi files but it seems that none of the media players are able to play it, mplayer, vlc, totem, realplayer, xine!!

btw i have installed all the codecs but still can't play it?

any help on this ppl?

oh another one im trying to use kaffine but when tyring to install it synaptic says "it is not installable" now what that suppose to mean?

MPlayer should have full support for AVI such as DiVX, XviD etc. Have you tested with more files if the one you have might be a "fake-file"? "fake-files" are very common on different p2p-networks, for example Direct Connect. Try to test with a file you can verify that it's "correct".

i have the same problem.... can't play any media files.... mp3, avi, mpg.... none. I also installed all the codecs, and some apps. Realplayer, Mplayer, they can't be executed properly neither.....100% CPU usage without showing up the app for realplay and gmplayer. but installations were successful. I can play some videos files and dvd with mplayer in command line, but without sound. don't know what's wrong......

have you install w32codecs , lame , ffmpeg , .... ??

hmmm ok, well all were installed but sometime it has to do with some audio codecs but im not sure,
