Play mp3's in Ubuntu

I have some mp3's on my external hard drive that I would like to copy to my Ubuntu system and play them. What player can I use to accomplish this?

Thanks.

You can play them in almost any player (Rhythmbox, Totem, etc). What you need, not provided off the CD, are the appropriate codecs. The easiest way to get them (and much more besides) is a little program called EasyUbuntu. This will download and install the codecs, as well as other Multimedia software, drivers, VOIP software and so on, should you want them.

Using this, in a few minutes I not only had MP3s playing, but Kaffeine acting as a full-function DVD player, with better results and less trouble than I'd had doing it in SuSE.

Hope this helps,
Rob.

I tried installing easyubuntu, but for some reason I am having trouble with it. I must be doing something wrong.

Well without any form of information, it's difficult to diagnose your problem.

I installed ubuntu on a laptop last night, and easyubuntu, i came a across a few things, you have t ohave python installed obviously, and it has to be run with sudo/root.

What were your errors?

I had problem with the latest easyubuntu as well. What worked fro me was use the Synaptic Package Manager. Use Synaptic to insure the "Universe" and "Multiverse" repositories are checked. Use search to find "banshee" and then search for "gstreamer0.10-plugins" and install the ones you want. They have some strange names like "bad" and "ugly" -- definitely select those. There are many players for MP3. Banshee is my favorite and its simple to use.
