Packages to extract/convert .chm files

Hi folks,

Ubuntu 7.04 desktop

I need to convet .chm as .html/.pdf. I have libchm and htmldoc installed. But can't convert .chm files as described on;

How to Convert chm files to HTML or PDF files
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-con...pdf-files.html

Are there better packages for doing the job. Which package is .chm viewer? xchm?

TIA

From your link:
Quote:
[CHM files] are basically a collection of HTML files stored in a compressed archive with the added benefit of an index.
... from this, I'd be tempted to rename the .chm file to .zip and try extracting it. JIC.

Yes... not installed by default.

Tell us where you got the files you want to convert and what happens when you try (inclute CLI input and output copied from your terminal).

Hi Simon Bridge,

Thanks for your advice.

I have my problem solved. I need providing path on running;

$ extract_chmLib aaa.chm /path/to/directory

aaa.chm extracted as .html files

Have "xchm" installed. It is now running. Actually I don't need to extract aaa.chm. Just run "xchm" to read it.

Ahhh.. so you could convert .chm files as described on [that website]... you just didn't. This is why it is good to show the exact command you issued.

Well done for working it out yourself anyway.
