own user not shoing in $w $who or $users - 11.10

greetings,

on my ubuntu 11.10 machine, if i'm only logged in via lightdm (xorg), and *not* on a tty or via ssh, i don't see my own user listed (see title for the commands i've tried).

is anyone else getting this? if so, how can i fix it? should i file a bug?

thanks,
bamdad

Hope you are not typing the $ before the command 'w', 'who' or 'users'. I used ubuntu 11.10 but then it was a live medium but the command 'w', 'who' and 'users' worked normally.

oh my gods, of course not. it's there for keeping the title short and to indicate that those are console commands.

hm.. then it must be a local thing. it's not consistent across reboots, though, sometimes they work, other times they don't.
