Question On Ubuntu 10.04 Conexant D480 MDC modem is not being detected

I have a conexant D480 MDC modem on my Dell Latitude | D800 but I am unable to Instll it,I have also tried using Gnome PPP,And it also says that no modems were detected on your system , Following are the error codes it generated
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60
--> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory
--> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory
--> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory

You will need patience. Modem drivers support under gnu/linux is often incomplete due to legal obstacles. The modem makers are hesitant to open up codes for the free software community that we can build our own from them. Try visit this site and also try here.
