nvidia driver-xorg.conf problem on rebooting

In order to get TwinView working on a dual monitor system, I installed
nvidia driver version 1.0-8756. I removed the Ubuntu nvidia driver. The
nvidia version installs fine and I let it run nvidia-xconfig. Then I do
startx and it starts fine with TwinView. Great!

But then when I reboot, X fails. Below is part of the log file. Any ideas on what I need to do to get driver working after rebooting?

I have an ASUS video card and motherboard. But I think this is an Ubuntu
issue, not a hardware or nvidia issue. It almost looks like a different
xorg.conf file is being referenced after the reboot. (???)

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

SR

well your xorg.conf would be a little bit handy here....

personally i was never a fan of that whole metamodes junk. i preferred having two seperate devices in xorg.conf and then just joining them togheter at serverlayout level, with or without Xinerama.

acid_kewpie -

xorg.conf is below. I thought it wouldn't be an issue since the nvidia drive made it and it worked on the initial startx.

Thanks

hmm that's a little odd. you can see the serverlayout there is joining two screens (what i said i preferred) yet the device section is trying to tackle both video outputs in a single device. I would suggest removing these:
Code:

Option "TwinView" "Yes"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "RightOf"
Option "MetaModes"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "Monitor0, Monitor1"

as if nothign else these are in the wrong place. these are attributes to apply to a device (video card) not a screen, which is the stage of using a fully configured video output method. i would then duplicate the device section and change the names to have a 0 and 1 on the end. then make screen 1 use device 1 and i think that should fall into place. alternatively delete the rightof line in the server layout, move the options above to the device section (and add a valid metamodes line too). this will then see just s aingle screen at X level.

Thanks again. Will check it. I didn't think the conf file could be the problem.

How does TwinView work perfectly when I do startx after the install?

Where does that configuration come from and how can I get at it?
