so i had the smart idea of taking out a dusty old second monitor, and had the dumb idea to use nvidia x server to set up double displays even when linux (ubuntu 11.10 displays settings) still thinks theres 1 display, chaos ensues
my normal gnome classic desktop has repeated every icon twice, and then a third time logging out and in, and a fourth time with a complete shutdown.
i know have 4 sets of window changer icons working in perfect unison.
as for the other new display, it is not decorated except for an empty top icon bar, you can wave your mouse over it, and do things with right click, but you are unable to move a started application into it
ubuntu desktop is doing very much the same thing, but no repeated items thank goodness
x server settings - as set by nvidia x server panel

edit: so i turned xinerama on and now some things are fixed, gnome still adds on icons (now it has 5 :3) and ubuntu now has inproperly decorated screens, but now both displays are being used correctly, i just updated 3 packages a error told me to update, ill talk some more after another reset
