Not able to mount USB

Hello all!
My USB stick has suddenly stopped mounting. It get detected at /dev/sdc, but does not get automounted nor can i mount it.
I hope its not corrupted. if it is can i recovery data?
Please help

$ sudo mount /dev/sdc -t vfat /media/usbstick
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

/dev/sdc is the device node representing the entire device. You probably want to mount one of its partitions (/dev/sdc1).
You can list the partitions on the device using fdisk:
Code:
sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdc

Hi ticiothe,
1> the usb does not mounted automatically - depends on the distro you are using.
2> not able to mount it - have to tried mounting as root (in the terminal) '#mount /dev/sdc /mnt'
3> Recovering data - this would be the worst case senario but then there is a utility called 'photorec' that has proved invaluable to me many times.
Hope this helps.
