Unhappy No Sound

Hi folks. I'm running 8.04 32 bit. The sound has completely cut out. The audio/video has been out of sync for a few weeks now, could the 2 problems be related? Also does anyone know how to open a tar.gz file? Thanx

i'm not sure about the sound but...

the opening a tar.gz file is simple just type in:

$ gunzip filename.tar.gz
$ tar -xf filename.tar

In the GUI you can usually just double-click on a tar archive to open it.

Regarding the audio problems, there is an excellent guide to setting up video and audio on the Ubuntu forum, which is definitely worth reading.
