No Help in Ubuntu forums?

No HELP in Ubuntu forums!!!
I have spent nearly a week trying to install Ubuntu and everytime I get through all the steps to finally click the install system button and when I'm lucky I can sometimes get to 49%.

I have read more postings than I care to and not just here in this forum.

I noticed when I searched for "installation freezes" that there are at least 2 pages of people with the same trouble.

On the first page there are 3846 views (probably people with the same problem as well) and a grand total of 84 replies (half of which are people saying they have the same problem)

I guess my main concern is WHERE IS THE HELP?

Here is the page in Ubuntu forums...check for yourself.

Well, I don't post there, but I've gotten some very helpful info from there. My install went off without a hitch. Have you tried downloading the ISO from a different source or to different media? I guess there's a possibility its corrupted, etc. I had no problems getting it to run perfectly from DVD R's. My understanding is, sometimes RW's will cause problems with ISO files.

Did you check the MD5SUM of the ISO image that you downloaded?

What speed did you burn at - try a very low speed for best results.

Make sure you are using good CD-R's - cheep ones can have problems sometimes.

I'd burn an alternate cd at 4x and try with that. Text mode install remains the most stable of them all IMHO when referring to Ubuntu.

Some helpful tips just mentioned.

1. Check your md5 sums prior to burning.
2. Turn down your burn rate.
3. Try using the alt 6.10 iso for your PC type.
4. You may have a hardware issue.

Try eliminating the top three items on my list. Can you run the live cd in ubuntu, will it boot up, and allow you to surf the web, etc?

Support is available commercially.
Next, there are support forums - they will be maintained by end users like yourself, possibly (but seldomly) including developers - more often there'll be end users like yourself, stating, "I had this, too, and the solution for me was to..."
In case you're at a certain level of expertise, and you're able to file exact and reproducable error scenarios - or even bug reports -, there are the mailing lists and bug tracking systems, where usually even the core developers listen (and reply).

After all, there's commercial and free support. Either way, support requests of any kind require involvement and cooperation.
To get through to the really knowledgeable guys for free, often, special effort is required (if possible at all).

On the other hand, I've solved many of my problems by studying the underlying system - by reading the docs *RTFM*, and also by systematic testing - (often, being supported by others *thanks*).
- BTW, I have a friend who always has problems with his Windows system (so that he doesn't use it much anymore). While he's a really good friend, I'm not interested in helping out, at all. That's because he's not interested, at all, how the system works. He would just like to "click", like he does with TV remote control, but with a more complex Personal Computer, he would have to learn some basics, at least, to get some lasting, positive, results. - He wouldn't, and he's getting no results, that's it.

Again, there's always commercial support available - else get involved (which might, at times, require more effort than just a week of evenings spent on an issue...)

In other words: Buy it or dig it.

There is plenty of help, but with that description there are only two options a) hardware problem b) bug.
And no user can help you with that.
My suggestion is, try the alternate cd/dvd (that doesn't start with the live system), do a memcheck before installing, check the md5 sum, make a cd check before installation.

I think there's a very good chance the problem is related to the cd/burner/drive.
