No GUI after initial installation

This is my first time trying UBUNTU 5.10

I downloaded the ISO and burned to CD. Ran the install program and expected to see the Ubuntu desktop but, all I get is command prompt. I can view directory and change password...I can us vi editor. But, issuing the startx command I get the no such command error. Same thing with xconfig, no such command.

I tried updating the X files using aptitude and installing Gnome using aptitude and updating the packages...but nothing allows me to get into a gui. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. This is getting frustrating.

okay, so I must have downloaded the "Server" edition by mistake. Still not sure why I was unable to get X loaded even after using aptitude to install Xserver and Gnome.

But, downloaded the correct Ubuntu 5.10 and re-installed. GUI popped up as expected.
