newbie: how to update software without using Synaptic Package Manager?
Hi,
I need to install the latest Pidgin(2.4.x) and the one I've installed from Synaptic Package Manager is listed as 2.2.x Currently, when firing pidgin from shell or Application menu it'll call from /usr/bin/pidgin Since Synaptic Package Manager don't have the latest one, how can I install the 2.4.x manually without messing up current ubuntu's setup? Thank you! |
Synaptic is a child's toy. Why would a Slackware user be dependent on it. Ubuntu is pretty juvenile itself, but I'm pretty sure it has Aptitude available. Finding the version of the app you want is more of a sources.list issue than a package manager one.
