new core 2 duo 7.04 install error failed to alloc

Hello,

I just purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad with Intel core 2 duo. I used my old 6.06 1386 to do an install this got me all the way through but when I tried to reboot I could not use X11. I thought and still think that this is because my new CPU requires the AMD 64 Version. I then tried to load Feisty 7.04 onto my CPU but when I boot w/ the live CD for 7.04 I get the following error ...failed to allocate memory resource #6. The disk then shuts down and the screen goes blank. I googled this error and it seems common but most people say that there sytem runs ragardless of the error.

Any help is Greatly appreciated.

No your computer should be able to use 386 or 64 bit. What is happening is the system cant auto configure x so boot into falsafe and at prompt sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
