Netflix No Video

I have installed the Netflix Desktop. It works great on my laptop running 12.04. However on my desktop, also running 12.04, I get no video when I try to watch something. I can hear the audio fine. All I see is a black screen.

Any ideas on how to progress in solving this? I would really like to get it to work on this computer.

Thanks.

This sounds like a video card and/or driver issue. I frankly don't know a lot about this subject, but I would start investigating along this route.

This bug may not be correct. https://bugs.launchpad.net/netflix-desktop/+bug/1104373

I assume it has to do with overlay or video driver or flash setting or such.

I had this exact same problem. Perfect audio but a black screen.

My problem turned out to be my proprietary (radeon fglrx) driver. Since I switched back to the free driver, Netflix has worked perfectly.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. The computer has an old nvidia graphics card and I am using the nvidia driver. I will try using the free driver and see if this helps.

Be aware that it may be a trade-off, though. My GPU runs slightly hotter under the free driver, and certain of my games no longer work properly. So I may have to do without one or the other.

Check your Video Driver

When I installed Mint Linux 16, I had the same issue, Yet it works fine on my Zorin 8 Ultimate just fine. I did change Video Drivers from the vanilla drivers, to NVIDIA. It is the NVIDIA Drivers that are causing the Silverlight connection to fail inside the browser, so I reverted back and problem solved.

Good luck, and let me know...
