So, upgraded to 9.10, didn't like it so went back to 9.04, NOW i'm trying to squeeze a little more speed out of startup / shutdown. I re-inst'd using ext4 which is very noticeable but theres a few things loading on startup I don't need like bluetooth support, pcmcia etc. I installed BUM but it will never let me remove anything. I'm running it as root, what am I missing?
Ubuntu 9.04
1.8Ghz 1GB Ram 160GB 7200rpm, not a powerhouse my any means and I don't expect to turn it into one, but I know I can squeeze a little bit more out of it. I shaved 9 seconds out of boot up just be uninstalling a few things/drivers I don't need, but I can't shake the others. Any help with BUM would be cool.
Please don't do this. If you feel you must run as root, then please don't tell me about it, it just makes me depressed
If you have services you don't want or need then either uninstall them (so they can't run) or disable their startup (System settings -> System services -> advanced ( I'm running KDE 3, but there'll be something in your gnome menus for this)).
