hi, i've launched the installl of ubuntu on my laptop acer travel mate 516te, but the system stop checking at (i have this message on the screen : detecting hardware to find cd-rom drives

loading module 'ide-cd' for linux ATAPI 'CD-ROM'...)
And after about 5 min until now there is nothing on the screen except blu. thanks for yr help. harys

1- dont say your post is urgent. its no more urgent than any other question (which is still not at all urgent).

2- maybe it WAS urgent.. considering you didnt have time to write the full word for 'blue' or 'your'.. id recommend spelling words out and not leaving out letters.

3- does the install let u specify manually your cd drive? can you check your hardware and see if it is compatible on the HCL (http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/)?

4- what do you mean it stops at 86%? do you put in the cd, powerup the computer and before it even starts isntalling it says its detecting devices, but stops there? or is it halfway through the installation process? etc

You might want to restart the install because it might have hung or reburn the ISO. The ISO might be bad.

hi,it's half way through the installation process.i have already chose the language and selected keyboard layout. after this i had this message on the screen : detecting hardware to find cd-rom drives, in the middle of the bar there was a red horizontal scroll bar on the blue background checking from 0% to 100%.it stops at 86% and then after about 5 minutes the screen came out in a full blue.i'm now looking for the compatibility of my hardware. thanks. harys

Restart the install and if it hangs in the same spot then re-burn the ISO.

hi,i do think that the cd is good because i receive it by post today using the shipit ubuntu cds free of charge. i don't see my laptop in the hardware list. does it mean that i can't install ubuntu on my laptop ACER TRAVELMATE 516TE. THANKS FOR ALL!!!harys

how many times has it stauled in the installation? is the computer a decent speed and config? id say try it again at least once more.
i dont see why it wouldnt detect the cd drive.. considering it would already be running off it.

I agree! My vote regards that you have a bad ISO or cd.
