Navigation Problem with symlink (jailkit & ispconfig)
On a Ubuntu machine (10.04 LTS).
I have a folder say /var/www/site/web
www belongs to root and has permissions 755.
site belongs to user1:group1 and has permissions 710 on it.
web belongs to user1:group1 and has permissions 777 on it.
Then I have have a local user friend:friend (in jail)
I add friend to group1 (usermod -a -G group1 friend), so now friend is also in group1.
friend then creates a symlink " ln -s /var/www/site/web " inside their home folder. The symlink 'web' is visible in their 'ls' display in red, but friend cannot follow the link to see the contents of web ('cd web'). When 'ls -lha' is issued, the correct path of the symlink is displayed, but in red (permission problem?)
However, when 'root' navigates to fiend's home folder and does 'cd web' it works and root can see everything in the folder.
(I'm not sure if mentioning ISPConfig is relevant to the question but I thought I would mention it in case.)
Anyone know what I've done wrong?
Cheers,
Nap
