multiple sounds in dapper drake

Hey all i'm running Dapper Drake, I had the problem that i can't get my on board soundcard (cmedia) to work, so i got some usb speakers

They work, well kind of, the biggest problem is i cannot run multiple sounds at the same time... say i'm watching a video and i am talking on gaim... well i'll have sound for the video i'm watching but as soon as i close the app all the sound for gaim will come through... it doesn't seem to matter what app i'm using, also another problem that i'm not so worried about is that the volume controll on the speakers doesn't work i have to adjust it in gnome, they are altec lansing usb speakers...

any help would be appreciated...

thanks

I use a cmedia sound card and have never had a problem. Have you tried running alsaconf on the cmedia? As for the problem with the usb setup, they are not running full duplex.
