That's because .nrg isn't an iso image, it's a proprietary image format created by nero. Linux loopback mounting, whether done by hand or through a gui, generally only works on iso9660 images.
You generally need to convert other formats to iso9660 before you can mount them. There's a small application called "iat" that can do that. It should be available through your package manager. Once you have it installed, simply open up a console to the directory holding the image and run "iat diskimage.nrg diskimage.iso". It will output an iso9660 image file in the same directory that should be mountable.
Edit: Strike that. My apologies. I see that furious should indeed be able to handle .nrg files through fuseiso. It seems I was out of date. In that case you need to give us more info on what you did, and what error messages you got out of the program. You may also want to go ahead and convert the thing to iso anyway, since loopback mounting of iso files is well-supported.
