manually starting services?


hello,

I would like to know how do i manually start a service using a cmd line?

im using vmware but i do not want vmware services to start automatically during boot, i should be able to start manually upon getting to my desktop.

any ideas?

root@localhost# /etc/init.d/YOUR_SERVICE start

From /etc/rcS.d/, remove the services which you don't want to start during system bootup. After the system boots up you can start the particular service as said by 'guedellas'.

You can also use a tool like rcconf to manage bootime services.

apt-get install rcconf
