The subject basically is all I'm asking -- am I correct in believing that since 8.10 Ubuntu and friends stopped using /etc/X11/xorg.conf? If so, I have looked countless times for how to do this (Google, other forum searches), and nobody seems to even be asking this question -- have I missed something? I'm trying to force a resolution in a Kubuntu 9.04 virtual machine that isn't available in the System Settings->Display dialog, and just in case I'd like to know how the heck to actually configure X in the newer Ubuntus.
Thanks, and pardon my terribly likely ignorance >_<
Beginning with Ubuntu 8.10, input device configuration is done through HAL rather than in your xorg.conf. The syntax for HAL fdi files is a bit different than xorg.conf, and editing XML is only marginally better than editing xorg.conf... but on the plus side configuration changes don't require an X restart - just replugging of the device.
