Lubuntu 11.04 without PCManFM

Hello. I need to remove pcmanfm but I don't know how I can replace pcmanfm by xfdesktop. I tried to remove pcmanfm, install xfdesktop and replace in /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart @pcmanfm on @xfdesktop. It doesn't work. Any ideas?

are you trying to move from ldxe to xfce?

or just replace the pcmanfm with thunar as your file manager?

I have only replaced the pcmanfm with thunar + installed xfdesktop

When you get to the login page hit enter to activate the login password box. Look at the bottom panel. There is a session box. Cklick on the bugger and choose xfce session (or Xubuntu session is you installed that package).

Enter your password and hit enter. You will be on the xfce desktop. Choose thunar from the applications menu.

I'm not having xfce, only thunar and xfdesktop with deps. I don't need xfce.

Why did you install xfdesktop if you don't want to use xfce?

I don't want to use pcmanfm as desktop manager and file manager.

At the login page pick an xfce session. Thunar will be in the Applications menu.

I believe that xfce uses gdm at least to login with (lxde uses ldm).

I have not been keeping up with it but the last time I knew Lubuntu was using thunar as its default file manager due to pcmanfm2 being completely overhauled.

You cant remove pcmanfm from lubuntu, its part of the core-

http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/lubuntu-core

This might do what you want-

undecim

You could always try this:
Code:

sudo mv /usr/bin/pcmanfm /usr/bin/pcmanfm.bak
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/thunar /usr/bin/pcmanfm

That will make pcmanfm a link to thunar. Only problem is you will have to repeat this each time you upgrade pcmanfm.

I'm wondering the same thing-

What is Xfdesktop?

The desktop manager sets the background image, provides a right-click menu to launch applications and can optionally show files (including application launchers) or iconified windows. It includes gradient support for background color, saturation support for background image, real multiscreen and xinerama support.

Xfce can use all the login managers I've tried it with. Xubuntu-desktop uses GDM-

But Xfce should work with the others.

Lubuntu 11.04 doesnt have thunar is its core or the lubuntu-desktop pakage-

Maybe some earlier version used thunar, but not as far as I know....but I havent used every version of lubuntu, so I could well be wrong.

Thaks a lot. I noticed that when I delete pcmanfm from autostart, desktop (black screen with right click menu) is displayed by openbox. The problem was in it.
And autostart settings are here:
/etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart
