Looking for a bash script which will prompt to enter host & username at initial boot.

I am working on different versions of Ubuntu & I looking for a script that will prompt the user to enter the host name & user name that he wanted for that system at initial boot up.

Thanks,

Hi,

Could you be a bit more specific about your wishes?

- You say you use different Ubuntu versions: Are they on the same machine and accessible by grub/lilo or are they on different physical machines or are they VM clients?

- When does this script you are asking for become active? Once you start a machine you will be presented by lilo/grub and after you made your choice a login screen screen appears (user name can be given here) for the specific distro you choose.

- Are you talking about remote access by ssh or another tool?

We need more details to give you an answer.

Thanks for your reply Druuna,

Here is my senario,
I'm installing different version of Ubuntu (Jaunty, Karmic, Lucid, Maveric etc) on different physical machine using clone zilla. But by default the same user name & host name is assigned to all the machine which are installed using that image of clone zilla. So after the image is installed I want to run a script at the start which will popup asking to enter the username & host name & then reboot the system so that all the changes can be saved. This will give the user the host name & user name that he wanted.

Thanks,
