Long delay starting evolution or firefox

Hi, I am on kubuntu 6.06. All apps are up to date. Sometimes when I start evolution or firefox, nothing happens. Then after 3 or 5 minutes, they appear from nowhere. I could start apps like Kate or shell programs just fine. Has anyone have advice on this?

When there is a delay with a program opening, it is often helpful to open a terminal and start the app from command line to look for errors. Try that and post the contents of the terminal window here
