i changed logon screen(nothing new installion of screens just what came in default - but dont remem what screen i chose) and also changed sound settings of what sound to hear when screen aPPears, when logging into...
then logged off to check hw it comes out....but no screen aPPeared just a dark1
later restarted the system finally no logon screen aPPears just the mouse cursor keeP active - round one which comes while loading...no changes...even left the system for long time but still no Progress...but system is not hanged mouse CURSER moves...
no other oPtion let has to manual restart...
how to rectify this....?
Ok,
If u are using gnome desktop then remove the orbit-<username> directory from /tmp directory.
U can try this :
Try to login to the desktop ..
When the dark screen appears go to the text console [Ctrl+Alt+F1] and cd to /tmp dir...
Here in /tmp dir do a 'ls -lart' , the last directory in the list should be the desktop related dir. See if its a [kde or orbit or some x dir and delete it with rm -fr dirname ]...
Go to your home directory and move the desktop related dir [they will be hidden files like .gnome,.gnome2,.kde etc] to some tmp directory. Try logging into the GUI now and see if it works..
Also check the x log files in /var/log directory...
