Logitech built-in camera not working

Hello guys!!

I have a problem with my webcam. It used to be working, but around a year ago, it stopped working. I was waiting for the new Ubuntu Release to see if that version could fix it, but I couldn't install it (the black screen issue).
So I came back to My Ubuntu Lucid Version (10.04), but it still does not work.
I does not work in Cheese, guvcview, chat or skype. Not working at all. I get a black screen and the light of the webcam does not switch on.

Here are the things you'll probably ask:

The red letters say: unable to set format: Device or resource busy. Could it be related to that??

I've also tried this (and didn't fix anything):

Quote:

and run

select video tab
select webcam device "test"
select video4linux (1) not (2) & "test"
Don't know what to do!! totally lost here!! Any ideas??

It was working and it stopped when nothing else had changed and hasn't worked since? This really does sound like a hardware problem.

If you have an external USB webcam lying around, I would suggest testing with it. If it works with your Ubuntu load, the odds increase significantly that your built-in webcam has blinked shut, unless there's some way in the webcam settings to disable it.

I was going to say your hardware was broken but noticed these posts:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8265130

Is it possible the camera is working but the aut-adjust has set it all the way to black? Any way to test?

cruzdelsur 09-05-2012 12:03 AM

Thank you both for your replies. I hope it is not a hardware problem. I'll try tomorrow with my sister's (and very old) webcam. I'll let you know. I'll also check the BIOS just in case the cam is switched off (could it be?). I don't know any way to test the webcam settings to check the aut-adjust... I'll see what I can do.
I'll be back soon! Thanks again!

Hello again!

I've found this post http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...o-open-832101/ where they suggest to test dmesg. So I did and I got this part that seems interesting (?):

I'll read that thread again tomorrow, I'm kind of tired and sleepy now!
Thanks!!

Sorry I haven't came back sooner, I've been really busy.
Here are the news. I've plugged in an external webcam, but it didn't work. I was excited because its light was turned on and I thought it would work, but nopes, it didn't. The same black screen...
I checked the BIOS, but nothing there...
So, still, no clue.
Any ideas?
