localhost:10000 uses an invalid security certificate. Webmin 1.470 Ubuntu 9.04

Hello

I just upgraded from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04. I installed Webmin 1.470 but when I tried to run it from Firefox 3.09 I got the following message. Never had this problem with Ubuntu 8.04

localhost:10000 uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.

(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)

Any ideas, folks ?

Hmmn

The lights just went on. All I had to do was add an exception for localhost:10000 in Firefox.

Oh well ..:P

Appreciate if you could explain how did you add an exception to "https://localhost:10000" error?

Thanks

had to do this today and happened to run into this thread to fix it..

Firefox:
go to Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced Button -> Encryption Tab
View Certificates -> Servers Tab
Add Exception -> Enter "https://localhost:10000"
Get Certificate -> Confirm Security Exception
Click Ok.

Just for some further information... a self-signed cert is no less secure than a cert signed by Verisign or any other CA (Certification Authority). However, if you were to get this error when connecting to a site on the internet, particularly an ecommerce site, you should treat it as suspicious, as it may be indicative of a man-in-the-middle attack.

Hope you're still following this thread, Synapse84.
I did what you described above, but after I click the [Get Certificate] button, I get the message "No information available. Unable to obtain identification status for the given site"

I checked the "reset browser.xul.error_pages.enabled" setting in about:config, but that was set to true already.

Any ideas?

Hi vinan,

Thanks for taking the time to answer this. I tried, but I'm afraid that doesn't work either...

I really think the problem is me not being able to add an exception for webadmin. I'm still wondering why this does not work. I am using the lastest version of Firefox.

Anyway, thanks again,

Regards,
Guido
