Unhappy Loading/Boot error?

Ubuntu, SUSE 9.2, and Gentoo all gave me similar errors when I tried to boot them from their CDs...

Ubuntu gave me:

ISOLINUX 2.04 2003-04-16 isolinux: Disk error 01,AX = 420,9F

SUSE only elaborated to as for another CD or a BIOS update.

Gentoo gave me:

ISOLINUX 2.13 2004-12-14 isolinux: 0142489F

Any thoughts? Please help.

What type of system do you have, what are it's specs?

Have you been able to boot other CDs from this machine? Are the CDs offically burned copies or home made?

Re you burning correctly onto the CD as an ISO file?

If I'm not mistakin', I got the same error message when trying to install. Are you using win XP? You may need to make sure the installation file you downloaded was copied correctly onto the CD as an ISO file. Apparently this doesn't happen automatically.

Go to www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/BurningIsoHowto . Scroll down to "Burning/writing an .iso Image to CD with Windows XP." There you will find out there is a missing component in the XP file transfer/CD burner thingy which you'll need to download and patch. Instructions are pretty straightforward. They also recommend verifying the file with an "MD5 checksum" utility. I had to do 2 or 3 burns before I got a good installation CD.

Good luck!
