Smile Kubuntu "ways?"

I have been using linux for about 3-4 years now, i have mostly been using SuSE linux (as it was user friendly and easy to setup)

I have now switched to Kubuntu for a change and it seems to be more of a stable system, also seems faster.

I have been using "yast" and had been aquanited to the ways of seting up service.

Now in Kubuntu, how do I, (my problems)(these may seem like noob questions but..i am a lil rusty from using suse)

1) grub, How do i add a startup image / non "dos-like" screen
2) grub, How to change the defualt startup OS
3) alsa, it seems the sound is not fully working, it seemed fins before i upgraded to kde 3.5, now when i run kde apps, it seems like i only hear sounds for that app and it seems like it only plays part of the sound file.
4) when i su to root, i get a "cannot connect to x server" message, when i ssh to root@localhost, it works fine
5) How do i configure serices like apache2 , is there a "gui" for it and how do i get to it?
6) changing the "startup / bootup screen" ?

Thanks in advance.

You can either download a new one, or make your own in GIMP. After you get one put in /boot/grub and then change the file name in your grub.conf file.

This is also changed in your grub.conf file. You'll just have to add a section for Windows.

Most people in Kubuntu use the "sudo" method in the console. I don't know whats wrong with your "su" that its giving you that error.

You can download new themes and apply theme using the theme manager.

thanks for the reply, i am not exactly useto kubuntu yet, i like the sudo method a lil more then su,

6) when i said the start-up screen, i meant the screen/background when the services and init 1-3-5 start up.

5) How do i configure serices like apache2 , is there a "gui" for it and how do i get to it?

3) also do you have ne idea what could be the sound problem??
It worked fine when i had kde 3.4 (default breezy install form cd) when i upgraded to 3.5, the sound was not working 100 percent, sseems like only part of the sounds are played every once and a while. and while an app like kopete is running, that is the onlt app which can use the sound system.

Thank again for the help.
