Kubuntu 10.10 Dual Boot W/ Win 7 Pro: No Option To Boot Kubuntu

Hi everyone,

I just installed Kubuntu 10.10 x64 on my Dell Studio 1555 alongside Windows 7 Pro. I did it the normal way with the (install alongside other os) option so I would've assumed that everything would go fine.

After the install and I reboot the laptop, it boots straight into Windows with no option to load up any other OS? Anyone else have this happen and know how I can fix this to get onto Kubuntu?

Hi FrostBot,

I've never used the 'install alongside other os' option, so I'm not sure exactly what that entails, but it sounds as if Windows still has its code in your MBR in place of grub. I would suggest reinstalling grub - you can find a good bit of discussion as to how to do that here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=24113. You'll need an ubuntu live cd, but the process is fairly straight forward.

Here is a more recent tutorial that shows you how to reinstall grub2 (which K/Ubuntu 10.10 uses) to the MBR:
