kernel panic in ubuntu lucid lynx shall i quit
This occurs ocassionally So i cannot even use the system. The default kernel is panicking and also the new kernel that i installed after the update. now the problem still exists and it is rendering my system unusable. i have put it in ubuntu forums. may be lucid is not supporting older hardware. mine is Athlon xp 1.8ghz ASUS a8NE mb 2GB raM. 82 GB HDD. earlier versions of ubuntu 9.04 was stable and i had the kernel panicking problem in it after i updated the kernel. As the problem remains a problem. I am not at all satisfied with lucid lynx it is unstable. cannot install updates in the update manager. Firefox vanishes while browsing the web. Then i have to restart it. shall i quit ubuntu or go for other Linux distros. if so please suggest linux os which is stable. or try to rectify my problem

Hey all,
I had a sort of similar problem, when I used an internet browser (Opera or FireFox). Basically, whenever I was surfing the net, the whole system would crash, and I couldn't even open a the terminal with Cntrl + Alt + F1. So , this is what I did, and managed to solve it.
Well, since I use UbuntuStudio (special Ubuntu distro geared towards those who use Music and Video Technology programs), I rebooted but with the RealTime Kernel selected in Grub. Since I haven't been having any problems since, I figured that the new kernel that came with 10.4 must have caused the problem.
I can't really remember how I downloaded and installed the RealTime Kernel, but I'm sure you'll find comprehensive instructions if you run a search for it.
Hope this helps, let me know how it goes.
Alex

Same problem
I've the same problem, the PC was it ubuntu 9.1 without ADSL connection , now I've adsl and I've made the upgrade to ubuntu 10.04.
But without any warning, the system freezes the X and the keyboards leds start to blink. (Kernel panic I guess).
I've tried to do a fresh install but the crash persists. What can I do to solve this problem ? It's my girlfriends computer and she is starting to use something different from Windows now.
