Ubuntu does have a C compiler (GCC, I believe). Type "apt-get install build-essential" (without the quotes) in the root terminal.

That is the only thing I have come up with going through a number of different forums. Being completely new to this entire community, though, I've not yet been able to find much beyond that.

Sorry.

Anjuta is an IDE in ubuntu and kubuntu should include kdevelop, and you should be able to use it with ubuntu. I just use vim and gvim myself.

Unless you are using too complicated class definitions and cross referencing, vim and emacs seem to be the cleanest way to write your code. This is my personal opinion but some IDEs like kdevelop seem to get fancier and fancier. Anjuta is a very nice middle ground, tho. It is both functional as kdevelop and simple as a plain editor.
